Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us. Reiki originates from Japan, from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui.

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

How does it work?

It is based on the principle that illness is caused by a disturbance or disruption in the body's energy field. Thus by using channeled energy and symbols, it is believed that negative energy (that causes dis-ease) can be dissipated by filling the body with channeled positive energy.

What does it involve?

Reiki treatments are given with the client fully clothed either lying on a couch or sitting in a chair depending on what is most comfortable.  The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions (holding them in each position for a couple of minutes) which cover the whole body . The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. The client does not have to think about or do anything, as it is the practitioner's aim to provide a gentle, warming, vital energy appropriate for the recipient, a full treatment usually takes 1 hour.

What is it good for?

Reiki can be used to relieve the symptoms of chronic illnesses such as anxiety, insomnia, back pain and arthritis, and it often produces long-term beneficial changes. In most cases the practitioner will suggest a course of four, six or twelve treatments for maximum benefit.

What are the benefits?

A reiki treatment will leave you with a sense of deep relaxation, some people have said that they feel emotionally lighter, rejuvenated but balanced.
